What can Maca do for you?

You may’ve read about Maca, the latest superfood to find its way onto our health food and now many supermarket shelves.

And you might have read that it not only helps to balance hormones and provides a natural energy boost.  But did you know that it could also help to improve exercise endurance and sexual libido? The Peruvian plant with super powers has been used therapeutically for many years for its effects on balancing hormones and as a natural stimulant, but studies have also found that it may increase the time to exhaustion in endurance exercise so athletes are now sitting up and taking notice.

Maca typically comes in powder form and can be added to smoothies, cereals or used in desserts. One thing to note – although many of the effects of maca are known to be positive, due to its potential hormone altering properties, it’s not recommended that pregnant or breast feeding women, or anyone with hormone sensitive conditions such as breast cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, endometriosis, or uterine fibroids take maca containing products.
