New year’s resolutions

New year, new start. How many times have you heard…and said this?  I’ll be honest with you, your tight jeans aren’t going to magically become looser. That is unless, you do something about it.

It’s easy to conjure up elaborate New Year’s Resolutions; ‘I’ll stop eating chocolate forever’, ‘I’ll go to the gym everyday’, ‘I’ll drop 4 sizes by the end of the month’. Are these results ever actually achieved though, and if you do notice a difference, is the success sustained or are you soon on the way to the chocolate fountain again?

The key to making productive New Year’s Resolutions is to keep the goals specific and
realistic. Instead of saying you’ll go to the gym everyday, decide that you’ll go to the gym for an hour on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Establish a routine, 30 minutes on the treadmill, 15 minutes on the bike and 15 minutes swimming. You are more likely to stick to tangible objectives and achieve clear results this way.

Treat yourself this new year; buy a diary. Write your goal(s) down and make a game plan. Relive the fun of spider diagrams and gel pens. For each goal, plan how you intend to achieve success and as you go on, tick off days and jot down notes. Before you know it, the path towards your resolution(s) will have become second nature and you can flick back on your diary to see how far you’ve come!

The greatest investment we can make is in ourselves. So; concrete, measurable goals, a focused and determined mindset and some inspirational quotes to fill in the first page of your diary, and you’ll be saying no to a bar of chocolate and yes to a square of chocolate…after your week at the gym, in no time!
