18 Feb Exercise for younger skin
There’s no question that exercise helps to maintain a healthy weight & improves your mental health. But have you considered exercising for healthy, younger looking skin?
A great way to achieve a natural glowing complexion is to get moving! Exercise can help you achieve the skin you’ve always wanted whilst having a positive effect on your health. Here’s how:
1. Increasing blood flow
Physical activity improves circulation within the body, providing vital organs with a rich supply of oxygen and nutrients. This is why exercise is so great for reducing risk of cardiovascular disease. The increased blood flow is also beneficial to your skin. Enhanced circulation provides the skin with a steady supply of oxygen helping to keep skin looking healthy, plump and young. The blood flow also removes any nasties from cells that age and dry out the skin. It’s kind of like having a facial on the inside!
2. Improving collagen production
Collagen is a protein found in your skin which helps to keep it wrinkle free and youthful looking. Exercise stimulates the body to produce more collagen in order to strengthen connective tissue. Over time, extra collagen helps to thicken the skin, appearing to reverse the ageing process by keeping those wrinkles at bay. In order to gain the benefits of this extra collagen production, it is important to maintain a regular exercise routine!
3. Reducing stress
Exercise helps to reduce stress and in turn skin conditions that may be intensified by high stress. Current research shows that acne, eczema and oily skin are influenced by stress hormones. Therefore, reducing the amount of stress hormone in your body by exercising can have positive results on your skin health.
4. Improving sleep
Ever noticed that you get a great night’s sleep when you have exercised during the day? Achieving a good quality sleep gives your skin a chance to repair and rejuvenate. This has a significant impact on skin appearance the next day. Studies have shown that regular exercise helps the skin to repair itself faster, and the best way for your body to do this is during a good night’s rest. Sleep well to keep your skin bright – simple!
Remember, if you are exercising outside it is important to protect your skin by wearing sunscreen. Nothing ages skin faster than sun damage!
